- Beta-carotene
 
Beta-carotene is an antioxidant; neutralizes free radicals; helps to overcome vitamin A deficiency; alleviates pain and other symptoms; reduces duration and severity. Take 25,000-50,000 IU of beta-carotene daily, in divided doses, for many months. Do not use synthetic beta-carotene if you are a smoker. It may increase the risk of some type of cancers.
