Supplements for Oral Use

  • Beta-carotene RatingRatingRating

    Beta-carotene reduces birth defects; used for prevention. Take 25,000 IU of beta-carotene daily, in divided doses, for many months. Do not use synthetic beta-carotene if you are a smoker. It may increase the risk of some type of cancers. During pregnancy use beta-carotene under the control of an experienced practitioner.

  • Calcium RatingRatingRating

    Calcium helps to overcome calcium deficiency; provides mineral nutrient that body needs. Take 1.0-1.4 g of calcium daily, in divided doses, for many months. May be used by pregnant women.

  • Fish oil RatingRating

    Fish oil contains omega 3 fatty acids; reduces birth defects and prevents low birth weight. Take 3-6 g of fish oil daily, containing 18% EPA and 12% DHA, in divided doses, for many months. May be used by pregnant women.

  • Folic acid RatingRating

    Folic acid helps to overcome folic acid deficiency; used for prevention. Take 1-3 mg of folic acid daily, in divided doses, before and during pregnancy. May be used by pregnant women.

  • Magnesium RatingRating

    Magnesium reduces birth defects; used for prevention. Take 400-600 mg of magnesium daily, in divided doses, for many months. May be used by pregnant women.

  • Vitamin B complex RatingRating

    Vitamin B complex used for prevention. Take vitamin B complex daily, 50-150 mg of each B, in divided doses, for many months. May be used by pregnant women.

  • Vitamin D RatingRating

    Vitamin D used for prevention. Take 400-800 IU of vitamin D daily, in divided doses, for many months. May be used by pregnant women.
