Supplements for Oral Use
- Acetyl carnitine
   
Acetyl carnitine improves nerve function and sensory perception; promotes nerve regeneration; alleviates nerve pain and other symptoms; it is helpful to diabetes and chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathies. Take 2-3 g of acetyl carnitine daily, in divided doses, for many months. Intramuscular form works better.
- Alpha lipoic acid
   
Alpha lipoic acid slows down the progression; alleviates symptoms; used for prevention and treatment. Take 0.7-1.4 g of alpha lipoic acid daily, in divided doses, for many months. Intravenous injection form works better.
- GLA
   
GLA nourishes nerves; improves nerve function; alleviates pain and other symptoms. Take 300-600 mg of GLA daily, in divided doses, with meals, for many months. If you take 2-4 g of black currant seed oil, containing 15% of GLA or 1.25-2.50 g of borage oil, containing 24% of GLA or 3-6 g of evening primrose oil, containing 10% of GLA you receive 300-600 mg of GLA. Works better with alpha lipoic acid.
- EPA
 
EPA is an omega 3 fatty acid; nourishes nerves; improves nerve function and glucose tolerance; increases insulin sensitivity; alleviates diabetic peripheral neuropathy symptoms. Take 1-3 g of EPA daily, in divided doses, for many months.
- Fish oil
 
Fish oil contains omega 3 fatty acids; nourishes nerves; alleviates symptoms. Take 3-6 g of fish oil daily, containing 18% EPA and 12% DHA, in divided doses, for many months.
- Selenium
 
Selenium is an antioxidant; neutralizes free radicals; alleviates symptoms. Take 100-200 mcg of selenium daily, in divided doses, for many months.
- Vitamin E
 
Vitamin E alleviates nerve pain; alleviates symptoms. Take 400-800 IU of vitamin E daily, in divided doses, for many months.
