Supplements for Oral Use
- Carnitine
  
Carnitine reduces triglycerides and LDL (bad) cholesterol; improves HDL (good) cholesterol, heart function and energy production; used for prevention and treatment.Take 1.5-3.0 g of carnitine daily, in divided doses, for many months. Propionyl carnitine works better.
- Artichoke leaf
 
Artichoke leaf stimulates bile production; reduces cholesterol synthesis, total cholesterol and LDL (bad) cholesterol; reduces triglycerides. Take 3-12 g of dried artichoke leaf or 1.0-1.5 g standardized artichoke leaf daily, in divided doses, for many months.
- Astaxanthin
 
Astaxanthin is an antioxidant; neutralizes free radicals; reduces plaque formation in blood vessels. Take 6-12 mg of astaxanthin daily, in divided doses, for many months.
- Lignan
 
Lignan reduces cholesterol and arteriosclerosis risk. Take 30-120 mg of lignan (= to 10-40 g of crushed flax seed) daily, in divided doses, for many months.
- Alpha lipoic acid

Alpha lipoic acid is an antioxidant; neutralizes free radicals; inhibits LDL (bad) cholesterol oxidation; used for prevention and treatment. Take 200-400 mg of alpha lipoic acid daily, in divided doses, for many months.
- Bilberry

Bilberry is a blood thinner; reduces platelet aggregation, blood clot formation and plaque formation in blood vessels. Take standardized bilberry extract daily, containing 45-60 mg of anthocyanosides, in divided doses, for many months.
- Chondroitin sulfate

Chondroitin sulfate is used for prevention. Take 1-2 g of chondroitin sulfate daily, in divided doses, for many months.
