Description: Demulcents soothe and relieve irritation of tissue, specially mucous membranes. They form a soothing film over a mucous membrane, relieving minor pain and inflammation.

Supplements for Oral Use

    Marshmallow is a demulcent; soothes mucous membranes. Take 4-6 g of marshmallow root daily, in tea or capsule form, in divided doses, for many weeks.

  • Acacia gum RatingRatingRating

    Acacia gum is a demulcent; soothes mucous membranes. Take acacia gum daily, in divided doses, for many months, as suggested on the label.

  • Aloe RatingRatingRating

    Aloe is a demulcent; soothes mucous membranes. Take 40-80 ml of aloe gel or juice daily, in divided doses, for many months.

  • Bladderwrack RatingRatingRating

    Bladderwrack is a demulcent; soothes mucous membranes. Take bladderwrack daily, in divided doses, for many months, as suggested on the label.

  • Burdock root RatingRatingRating

    Burdock root is a demulcent; soothes mucous membranes. Take 3-6 g of dried burdock root daily, in tea or capsule form, in divided doses, for many months.

    Chickweed is a demulcent; soothes mucous membranes. Take 6 teaspoon (30 g) of chickweed daily, in tea form, in divided doses, for many months.

  • Coltsfoot RatingRatingRating

    Coltsfoot is a demulcent; soothes mucous membranes. Take 10-20 g of coltsfoot daily, in tea form, in divided doses, for not more than one month. Prefer pyrrolizidine-free coltsfoot. Use this product under the control of an experienced practitioner.
